A woman died in a traffic crash when she apparently lost control of her sports utility vehicle early this morning in northwest Houston.

The wreck occurred in the 4500 block of Bingle near Malibu about 2:20 a.m., police said.
Police said the 47-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was rushed to Memorial Hermann-The Texas Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the woman was driving a red Chevrolet Suburban when it veered from the road, slammed into a light pole and then smashed into a tree.

Alcohol may have been involved in the wreck, police said.

One of the woman's friends who was following the woman said they had been drinking together before the wreck. He said he was driving behind her but lost her in traffic and didn't see the crash.

That driver came upon the wreck after it had occurred and spoke with officers.

The case is still being investigated.
